We had a really good Day - the mix is ideal: lab work, well presente lectures and tour of the big kit. The software is invaluable to follow up questions the students were too scared to ask on the day.

As usual it was a wonderful event. My students were enthralled by the enthusiasm displayed by the staff throughout the day and learnt so much during the lab session.

We have been coming to the workshop every year since it began!
I think that must be 10 years?
My A2 students are often worried about leaving school and missing other lessons at this stage of the course. I always reassure them that this particular workshop is well worth the effort. It is relevant, well organised and delivered by real enthusiasts!
The feedback I have from them is always positive. Thank you.

The year 13 students found the day very worthwhile.
Using equipment and instrumentation they can’t access in school brought theoretical Chemistry to life for them.
They also enjoyed being in a university for a day.
The lectures were also useful to the joys of NMR still to come in school!
They commented on the way home that they liked the fact that studying at Cardiff University was not constantly mentioned during the day.
    Same again next year please.

This was a most useful day, very carefully targeted at the current stage of the A2 Specification for our U6 pupils.
The practical work was ideal, giving a flavour of working in a university lab on very relevant reactions.
The tours of the spectroscopy labs was also very appropriate. Overall an extremely worth while day – many thanks!

The pupils really enjoyed the workshop, especially the hands on approach in the laboratory isolating and analysing the compounds in the everyday fruits such as oranges and lemons.

The tour of the Department of Chemistry was incredibly important to give them an insight into university studies, and to see how ‘state-of-the-art’ techniques and instrumentation such as IR, NMR, HPLC and GC/MS are used to determine purity and structure determination.

The elearning resource was also very useful once we had returned to school to support their learning for their january exams.

We always look forward to returning each year!

  9. Yet another year goes by with an inspiring and informative performance by Mr Hollamby. Pupils aren't patronised and engage instantly - that's why we book every year. Pupils really benefit from both the theory and the practical activities. Diolch o galon.
